Mindful Hiking: Peace is Every Step

Presented by Kay Peterson

Experience ease in movement and stillness of mind in the Giant Sequoias. Guided by nature, we’ll uncover our innate wisdom for restoring balance through guided meditation, contemplative hiking, and mindful movement.

Kay Peterson, M.A., M.F.T.i., is a psychotherapist, wilderness guide, and Shambhala Buddhist Meditation Instructor. She has been facilitating nature-inspired programs focused on individual transformation, creative group process, and mindfulness for over fifteen years. Kay also teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) courses in the Bay Area.

*Please plan to bring comfortable shoes for hiking, two water bottles, clothing layers for changing temperatures, a rain jacket, sun hat and sunscreen, and a small daypack to carry these things in for the day. Also, please consult the Visitors Guide on the Far Horizons website for more info on what else to bring for your stay, and directions.

 

Here is the tentative schedule for your MINDFUL HIKING EXPERIENCE!
Thursday

  • 8 pm – orientation

Friday

  • 10:00am – Intro/guided meditation (cultivating mindfulness and awareness)
  • 12pm – lunch
  • 1:30pm – guided meditation
  • 2:30pm – guided contemplative hike (walking meditation – cultivating mindfulness and awareness)
  • 5pm – tea
  • 5:30pm – guided meditation (gentle, restorative movement and lying down meditation)
  • 6:30pm – dinner
  • 7:30-9pm – optional group activity (campfire)

Saturday

  • 10:00am – guided meditation
  • 11am – guided contemplative day hike (bring lunch) – will include “solo” time
  • 5pm – return to FH for tea
  • 5:30pm – guided meditation (gentle, restorative movement and lying down meditation)
  • 6:30pm – dinner
  • 7:30-9pm – optional group activity

Sunday

  • 9am – guided contemplative hike
  • 11:30AM closing activity
  • 12pm lunch
  • 1:30pm good bye
